From Tangle to Tidy: Creating Your Dream Earring Holder with iOrganize® Slats
Earrings. We love them. We collect them. And we often struggle to keep them organized. Tangled hoops, missing backs, and the dreaded hunt for a matching pair can make getting ready a frustrating experience. But fear not, fellow earring enthusiasts! With iOrganize® Earring Slats, you can transform that jumbled mess into a beautifully displayed and easily accessible collection. This blog post will guide you through creating your own custom earring holder using these ingenious little slats.
What are iOrganize® Earring Slats?
iOrganize Earring Slats are designed to hold your earrings securely and prevent tangling. These wooden slats come in 10 different lengths up to 20” long, 10 different colors/stains and 3 different styles including our patented hoop hook slats. These allow you to customize your earring holder to perfectly suit your collection. Laser cut for perfection, they're a practical and stylish solution for any jewelry lover.
What You'll Need:
· iOrganize® Earring Slats: Choose the size, quantity and style based on your earring collection.
· A Frame or Base: This could be a picture frame (new or repurposed), an existing jewelry cabinet, a shadow box, two pieces of wood mounted vertically on a wall, or directly mounted slats on a wall with standoff screws. Get creative!
· Tools: Depending on your chosen base, you might need a drill or screwdriver and you’ll definitely need glue. I tested a ton of glues and the one I found that works the best is Liquid Nails Fuze-It Perfect Glue. It can be hard to find and I sell it cheaper on my website than you can buy it elsewhere. Make sure to include it with your slats order.
· Level: Nothing is more disappointing than standing back after installing something on the wall and seeing it is crooked. Grab a level if you’re mounting directly on the wall.
· Measuring Tape or Ruler: To plan the placement of your slats.
· Pencil or Marker: For marking the slat positions.
Let's Get Crafty!
1. Plan Your Layout: Before you start attaching anything, lay out your earrings and the iOrganize® Slats on your chosen base. Experiment with different arrangements to find the most visually appealing and practical layout. Consider the size and type of your earrings. Do you have a lot of studs? Dangle earrings? Hoops? Group similar styles together for easy access.
2. Mark the Positions: Once you're happy with the layout, use your measuring tape or ruler and pencil to mark the positions for your iOrganize® Slats on the base. Make sure the markings are evenly spaced and aligned.
3. Prepare Your Base: If you're using a plain frame or piece of wood, now's the time to get creative! Paint it, cover it with fabric, or decorate it however you like to match your style.
4. If You’re Using Screws You Must Pre-Drill! Be sure to pre-drill holes in your slats if you are going to screw them into your frame/base. The pre-drilled holes should be almost but not quite as large as the screws you will be using. If you don’t pre-drill, or don’t pre-drill holes large enough then the slats may split or break when you try to screw them onto the base/frame. I’d advise pre-drilling holes in your frame/base as well.
5. Attach the Slats: Using screws or glue, attach the slats - being careful to keep them straight and evenly spaced. (Tip: Use some common household objects to set the spacing the same on the left and right …. 2 spice jars (one on the left, one on the right), 2 identical thread spools, 2 salad dressing bottle lids, 2 salt and pepper shakers, 2 cosmetic bottles, etc.).
6. Glue tip: Put the glue on the frame/base, not on the slat. If you put the glue on the slat you’ll probably put too much glue on - covering too wide a space on the end of the slat - and afterwards that glue might be visible/shiny on the ends. Put the glue on the frame instead.
7. Let it Dry (if you used glue): If you used glue, allow it to dry completely before adding your earrings. Seriously, I know you’re excited to get all your earrings hanging up and organized at this point but LET IT SIT FOR HOURS TO DRY. You really don’t want to mess it up by trying to use it before the glue is perfectly dry.
8. Show Off Your Collection! Once everything is dry and secure, hang your earrings on the slats. Admire your beautifully organized and tangle-free collection!
Tips and Tricks:
· Repurpose and Recycle: Get creative and use old picture frames, barnwood, mirror frames or even cabinet doors as the base for your earring holder.
· Consider Your Space: Think about where you'll be placing your earring holder. Choose a size and design that fits your space and decor.
· Mix it up / Max it up: Have a ton of earrings? Make a wall collage! Use multiple frames, different sizes, etc.
· Personalize It: Add your own personal touch with paint, fabric, or other decorative elements.
· Think Vertically: If you have a large collection, consider creating a multi-tiered earring holder to maximize space.
· Don't Be Afraid to Experiment: There's no right or wrong way to do this. Have fun and let your creativity shine!
